THE EXCITING BOOK STORE
Village Vanguard is known in Japan as an “Exciting Book Store.”
Yes — it actually started as a bookshop.
But not a normal one.
Inside you'll find books mixed with manga, anime goods, music, games, art, fashion, snacks, toys, and the weirdest souvenirs you can imagine.
Every store is different.
Each location is curated by its own staff, so the items and recommendations change from shop to shop.
Think of it as a playground for Japanese pop culture —
a place where books, subculture, and strange discoveries all collide.
Today there are about 260 Village Vanguard stores across Japan, each one a little chaotic, a little creative, and completely unique.
